Types of Certificates Offered

Intern Certificate

  • Candidates must pass all TExES content exams required for their certification area AND have completed 150-clock hours of coursework, plus at least 30 hours of field-based experience.

  • Candidates must have FIVE (5) formal observations by the education preparation program.

  • It is valid for one year, and candidates are allowed only ONE (1) Intern Certificate for their lifetime.

Probationary Certificate

If the campus administrator and field supervisor recommend that a candidate with an Intern Certificate needs a second year of internship for more professional growth, the candidate must apply and pay for the probationary certificate.

  • Candidates must pass all TExES content exams required for their certification area AND the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) exam.

  • Candidates must have THREE (3) formal observations by the education preparation program.

  • It is valid for ONE (1) year with the option for ONE (1) additional year. 

Standard Certificate

  • Candidates must pass all TExES content exams required for their certification area AND the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) exam AND have completed 270-clock hours of coursework, plus at least 30 hours of field-based experience.

  • Candidates must have FIVE (5) formal observations by the education preparation program.

  • It is valid for Five (5) years and must be renewed by the expiration date
