Certification Areas

The Region 7 EPP has been approved to offer the following certificate areas. Certification areas are determined by transcript hours or passing the Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT) exam. Click the four buttons below to learn more about each certificate and the requirements for admittance. 

Candidates desiring to teach English language arts and reading (ELAR), math, science, social studies, music, art, health, and physical education in Early Childhood (EC) through Grade 6 will be certified in 
 
Core Subjects EC - 6 with Science of Teaching Reading
 
To be admitted you MUST hold a bachelor’s degree AND either:
    • have a minimum of thirty (30) hours of coursework in the core content areas with a minimum GPA of 2.75.
      • English (6 hours)
      • Math (6 hours)
      • Science (6 hours)
      • Social Studies (3 hours) 
      • Kinesiology and/or Fine Arts (3 hours)
      • Remain 6 hours comprised of any combination of those listed above
    • Or Pass the TX PACT: Essential Academic Skills (700)
Candidates desiring to teach English language arts and reading (ELAR), math, science, social studies, music, art, health, and physical education in Grade 4 through Grade 8 will be certified in 
 
Core Subjects 4 - 8 with Science of Teaching Reading
 
To be admitted you MUST hold a bachelor’s degree AND either:
    • have a minimum of coursework hours listed below with a minimum GPA of 2.75.
      • English (12 hours)
      • Math (15 hours)
      • Science (15 hours)
      • Social Studies (12 hours) 
    • Or Pass the TX PACT Core Subjects: Grades 4-8 (790)
Candidates desiring to teach core subject areas in grades 4-8 will be certified in one of the following
  1. English Language Arts & Reading with Science of Teaching Reading
  2. English Language Arts & Reading/Social Studies with Science of Teaching Reading
  3. Math
  4. Math/Science
  5. Science
  6. Social Studies
 
To be admitted you MUST hold a bachelor’s degree AND either:
Candidates desiring to teach subject areas in grades 6-12 will be certified in one of the following
  1. English Language Arts & Reading
  2. Math
  3. Science
  4. Life Science
  5. Physical Science
  6. Chemistry
  7. Physics/Mathematics
  8. History
  9. Social Studies
  10. Speech
  11. Dance
  12. Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) 
  13. Journalism
To be admitted you MUST hold a bachelor’s degree AND either:
    • have a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours of coursework with 12 hours of upper-level courses in the area seeking certification with a minimum GPA of 2.75 on the last sixty (60) hours of coursework.
Candidates desiring to teach subject areas in any grade will be certified in one of the following
  1. Art
  2. Health
  3. Music
  4. Physical Education
  5. Spanish
  6. Special Education
  7. Technology Applications
  8. Theater Arts
To be admitted you MUST hold a bachelor’s degree AND either:
    • have a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours of coursework with 12 hours of upper-level courses in the area seeking certification with a minimum GPA of 2.75 on the last sixty (60) hours of coursework.

Changing Certification Areas
An applicant is admitted into the program based on a transcript evaluation or PACT score. Content preparation is specific to the certification area; therefore, the entirety of the program must be completed within the certification area approved during admittance. You are unable to change certification areas once you accept admittance.
